Song Sparrow (Melospiza melodia)
According to the Cornell University Laboratory of Ornithology, the Song Sparrow is widely distributed across North America. However, birds from different areas can look quite different - pale in the desert Southwest and dark and heavily streaked in the Pacific Northwest. The male sings to attract a mate and to defend his territory. The female is attracted to the song, but also to how well it reflects the ability of males to learn. Guys, there is a lesson here.
