Red-shouldered Hawk (Buteo lineatus)

The Red-shouldered Hawk is a year round resident of North Carolina. They are primarily raptors of the forest and eastern populations tend to inhabit bottom land hardwood, flooded deciduous swamps, and upland mixed forests. They seem to prefer areas with sufficiently open canopies to [permit aerial hunting.
