Chipping Sparrow (Spizella passerina)

Chipping Sparrows are year-round inhabitants here in Central North Carolina. They have one to three broods per year and like open tree-filled areas, like the areas between the detention ponds and the main Galloway building. According to the Cornell Lab, "In 1929, Edward Forbush called the Chipping Sparrow "the little brown-capped pensioner of the dooryard and lawn that comes about farmhouse doors to glean crumbs ken from the tablecloth by thrifty housewives." An interesting picture.
